gathering materials and laying out a plan

It's March and nothing is growing but I can see spring from here. I have begun acquiring things to get this project going.

Here is the garden layout that I will probably go with. It includes things I normally grow and things I will need for the project. I am going to try for sunflower oil for my oil needs and will scatter those all around. I saw a video of a woman squeezing it with her bare hands and thought that seemed like a worthwhile try.

Here is the garden timeline. I am using this garden planner called GrowVeg to keep my harvest times as lined up as possible. It seems like a really cool app and even though I am only using it on a free trial right now I think I may end up buying it.

I see one glaring problem already.

Look at that wheat...

I think generally I could aim for August or September for all my other ingredients but the wheat???

I think I am just going to plant some and cross my fingers.

Here are my seeds and the greenhouse all set up.
I am not anxious about the tomatoes as we have a good volunteer crop of those every year but I might try to find something tasty that is ready for harvest at the right time.
If all of these grow well then I should have the fixings for most of what I need.
I am thinking about driving out to Kansas for salt.
Thats quite an undertaking especially as I am so close to the ocean. A friend at work (Matt) reminded me of the microplastic problem and now I feel like salt from and old and deep mine might be a better option.
Also I was born in the only town in the USA that has a salt mine that lets you go down into it as a tourist. They also let you collect rocks from the ground and I could use that for a no microplastic option.
I've added some garbanzos and corn in case I have to make it a tortilla or I get in the mood for hummus. We shall see.

Its too early to start the seeds but only by a few weeks so I am setting up now.
